Dr. Sean Stokes
Dr. Stokes is the founder / director of
LifeWay Counseling Center. He earned his
Ph.D. from Texas Tech University in
Marriage and Family Therapy, his M.A. in
Marriage and Family Therapy from the
University of Louisiana at Monroe and his
B.S. in Human Development Family Studies
from Texas Tech University.
He is a Licensed Professional Counselor
(LPC), a Licensed Marriage and Family
Therapist (LMFT), and a Board
Approved Supervisor for both licenses. He
is a qualified Divorce Mediator in the State
of Texas, a Parenting Coordinator and
Parenting Facilitator, trained in the PREP
(Preventative and Relationship
Enhancement Program) model, and is a
Clinical Member of the American
Association for Marriage and Family
Therapy (AAMFT). In 2011, he was
appointed by Governor Rick Perry to the
Texas State Board of Examiners of
Marriage & Family Therapists where he
serves on the Rules Committee as well as
the Licensing Standards Committee.
Dr. Stokes is an Associate Professor at
Texas Wesleyan University in the Graduate
Counseling Program. He is also
an Adjunct Faculty member for Liberty
Christian University and Wayland Baptist
University.
He has published in the Journal of Marital
and Family Therapy, the Journal of
Divorce and Remarriage, and
Contemporary Family Therapy: An
International Journal. He has also
co-authored two book chapters:
Social-emotional learning,
interpersonal skills, and resilience with
his wife, Dr. Marilyn Massey-Stokes in K.
Goodheart, J. Clopton, & J. Mccomb (Eds.),
Eating disorders in women & children:
Prevention, stress management and
treatment (2nd ed). New York: Springer.
Supervision in family therapy in Metcalf,
L. (ed.), Marriage and Family Therapy: A
Practice-Oriented Approach. New York:
